RACE RECAP
Connor Zilisch proved that crew chief Rodney Childers' reputation for bold strategy calls is well-earned, as the JR Motorsports rookie stayed out on older tires with 28 laps remaining and held off a furious charge from Kyle Larson to win the Suburban Propane 300 at Bristol Motor Speedway. Larson had dominated the evening, sweeping both stages and leading a staggering 230 of 300 laps in the No. 7 Chevrolet, but when a caution for Gray Gaulding's spin on lap 270 bunched the field, Zilisch's team gambled on track position while the leaders pitted for fresh rubber. It was a call that would define the race.
The final 30 laps were pure Bristol theater. Larson sliced through traffic and dispatched Brent Crews for second, but as he closed on Zilisch's rear bumper with two laps remaining, he lost control in turn four and had to gather his car, costing him precious momentum. Zilisch crossed the line 0.703 seconds ahead for his 12th career O'Reilly Series victory and first at the Last Great Colosseum. The night was not without drama earlier โ Mason Maggio's engine exploded on the backstretch, engulfing his car in flames on pit road and bringing out a red flag. Justin Allgaier quietly drove to fourth place and collected his eighth Dash 4 Cash $100,000 bonus, extending his series points lead to 130 points over Sheldon Creed.
