RACE RECAP
Ty Gibbs captured his first career NASCAR Cup Series victory in a dramatic Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway, threading through a late-race restart with 22 laps to go to seize the lead from dominant runner Kyle Larson. The No. 54 Toyota, which never led until the final 25 laps, came alive on the short runs that defined a caution-heavy final stage.
Larson and Ryan Blaney controlled the race for 474 of 505 laps between them โ Larson leading 284 and Blaney 190 โ but neither could hold off Gibbs on the final restart after the eighth caution of the afternoon brought the field together. Gibbs dove to the bottom of Turn 1, cleared Blaney by the backstretch, and never looked back.
The race featured 9 cautions for 72 laps, including a pair of multi-car incidents that collected several contenders. The No. 24 of William Byron started from the rear after unapproved adjustments but never recovered, finishing 24th. Todd Gilliland delivered a standout run from 35th on the grid to finish 6th in the No. 34, making him one of the biggest fantasy bargains of the weekend. The margin of victory was a razor-thin 0.055 seconds over Blaney in the closest Bristol finish in recent memory.
