RACE RECAP

Corey Heim turned NASCAR's inaugural Cup Series race at the San Diego Street Course into the biggest win of his young career, taking the Anduril 250 by 10.365 seconds over Bubba Wallace at Naval Base Coronado.

Heim started 13th in the No. 67 23XI Racing Toyota and did not need to dominate the lap chart to control the ending. The race had seven cautions for 11 laps, 20 lead changes among 13 drivers, a red flag for a Turn 1 pileup, and enough strategy churn to pull several heavy favorites out of rhythm. Heim led only three laps, but they were the three that mattered.

The final top five matched the race's street-course personality: Heim first, Wallace second, Kyle Larson third, Zane Smith fourth and AJ Allmendinger fifth. Ryan Blaney won Stage 1 and finished ninth. Ryan Preece won Stage 2, led five laps and finished 11th. Shane van Gisbergen started from the pole and led 11 laps, but a late fuel-pump issue dropped him to 32nd after he had looked like the natural favorite on a new street course.

For FantasyJolt, San Diego rewarded survival and stage-point layering more than raw finishing position alone. Allmendinger finished fifth but led the field in FantasyJolt points thanks to points in both stages. Blaney and Preece followed on the fantasy board, while Heim's $8 salary made the race winner one of the slate's cleanest values.
