RACE RECAP
Christopher Bell turned fresh tires into a Southern 500 victory, catching Kyle Larson after a late rain interruption at Darlington. Bell and most of the lead-lap field stopped for tires, while Larson, Austin Cindric, Joey Logano and Ryan Preece stayed out. Larson held the lead initially, but Bell closed the gap and made the decisive late pass.
It was Bell's first Cup win of 2026 after seven runner-up finishes, and his 14th career victory. Ty Gibbs followed his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate home, with Tyler Reddick, Ryan Blaney and Larson completing the top five. Bell's winning margin was 1.038 seconds.
Denny Hamlin's evening took a different turn after Stage 2. A slow pit stop preceded contact with Michael McDowell and the wall, leaving toe-link damage and an eventual 18th-place finish. William Byron retired with an engine failure and was classified 37th.
Saturday's weather had canceled practice and qualifying, leaving the starting order to NASCAR's metric. Reddick won Stage 1 and Bell won Stage 2. The 367-lap race produced 29 lead changes among 12 drivers, with six cautions covering 44 laps. NASCAR's race-specific feed now confirms inspection complete and retains Bell as the winner.
