RACE RECAP

Denny Hamlin delivered one of the most clutch performances of his career, surging from a fifth-place restart to pass teammate Chase Briscoe with four laps remaining and hold off Kyle Larson by 1.533 seconds to win the South Point 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The victory -- his series-best sixth of 2025 and 60th of his Cup career, tying Kevin Harvick on the all-time wins list -- punched his ticket as the first driver into the Championship 4 at Phoenix Raceway.

Larson was the class of the field for most of the afternoon, leading a race-high 129 of 267 laps in his No. 5 Chevrolet, but could not hold off Hamlin's charge in the closing laps. Hamlin restarted fifth following a caution involving Ty Gibbs and methodically picked off cars, passing Larson with five laps to go and then clearing Briscoe a lap later. The No. 11 Toyota was untouchable on the long run, and Hamlin's late-race speed on worn tires proved to be the difference.

Christopher Bell finished third to keep his championship hopes alive, while Briscoe faded to fourth after leading in the closing stages. The result sent shockwaves through the Round of 8 standings: William Byron was involved in a restart wreck and dropped to 15 points below the cutoff line, with Chase Elliott (minus-23), Joey Logano (minus-24), and Ryan Blaney (minus-31) all facing must-perform situations in the final two races before the Championship 4 was set.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

01Denny Hamlin won his sixth race of 2025 and clinched the first Championship 4 berth, making him the top fantasy asset for any remaining races where championship motivation is a factor -- his long-run speed at intermediates was elite all season.
02Kyle Larson led 129 laps but finished second, a pattern that repeated throughout his 2025 playoff run -- high laps-led upside but vulnerability to late charges, making him a high-ceiling, moderate-risk fantasy play.
03Chase Briscoe led late but faded to fourth once Hamlin and Larson got by, illustrating that JGR teammates can cannibalize each other's finishes in the closing laps at 1.5-mile tracks.
04William Byron's restart wreck dropped him to 15 points below the cutoff, and Blaney sat 31 points back -- the standings chaos heading to Talladega and Martinsville created massive variance for fantasy playoff-leverage picks.
05Hamlin's 60th career win tied Kevin Harvick on the all-time list, underscoring his late-career renaissance and making the No. 11 Toyota the most reliable points producer in the 2025 fantasy postseason.
