RACE RECAP
Chase Elliott threaded the needle on the final lap of a wild double-overtime finish to steal the Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway, securing his second win of 2025 and punching his ticket to the Round of 8. Elliott was running fourth when the white flag dropped in the second overtime attempt, but Bubba Wallace and Denny Hamlin made contact battling for the lead in Turns 3 and 4, washing up the track and opening a lane on the bottom. Elliott dove inside both cars and crossed the line just 0.069 seconds ahead of Hamlin for his 21st career Cup Series victory.
The drama began when Wallace appeared to have the race won, leading as the field approached the white flag in the first overtime. A violent four-car wreck in Turn 3 on Lap 267 brought out the caution before Wallace could take the flag, resetting the field and setting the stage for the final-lap chaos. Hamlin and Wallace had been trading haymakers for the lead, and their contact in the last corner proved decisive -- not for them, but for the opportunistic Elliott lurking behind.
Christopher Bell salvaged third after running in the top five all afternoon, while Chase Briscoe and Wallace rounded out the top five. The loss was devastating for Hamlin and Wallace, both of whom needed the win to strengthen their Round of 8 positions. With only the ROVAL remaining in the Round of 12, the playoff picture tightened considerably as Elliott advanced and left Hamlin, Wallace, and others scrambling for points in the cutoff race at Charlotte.
