Shane van Gisbergen led 74 laps, cleared the final pit cycle on Lap 88 and held off Chase Briscoe by 0.357 seconds to win again at Sonoma.
Shane van Gisbergen did not just win the Toyota/Save Mart 350. He turned Sonoma Raceway into a weekend statement.
One day after winning the O'Reilly race, van Gisbergen backed it up in the Cup car, leading a race-high 74 of 110 laps and holding off Chase Briscoe by 0.357 seconds. The No. 97 Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet rotated back to the lead for good on Lap 88 after the final pit cycle, and from there the race became what Sonoma often becomes when SVG has clean air: everyone else trying to stay close enough to make him uncomfortable.
Briscoe got close. He pressured the leader late in the No. 19 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota and made the final margin look like a fight. But van Gisbergen had enough grip, enough brake discipline and enough corner exit to keep the race in his hands.
The win was SVG's second straight Cup victory at Sonoma, his second Cup win of the 2026 season and his eighth career Cup Series victory. Every one of those Cup wins has come on a road course.
Gibbs Owns the First Half
The race did not start as an SVG runaway. Ty Gibbs won the pole, led all 25 laps in Stage 1 and then completed the stage sweep by winning Stage 2. The No. 54 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota led 31 laps, second-most in the race, and spent the first half looking like the car that might make Sonoma a JGR day.
Christopher Bell helped make that point early. He finished second in both stages, giving Joe Gibbs Racing a 1-2 grip on the opening chunks of the race. AJ Allmendinger, Austin Cindric and Ross Chastain filled out the Stage 2 top five, while van Gisbergen used the stage-flip strategy that eventually put the race back on his terms.
That was the split in the day. Gibbs won the stage race. SVG won the race that mattered.
The Lap 88 Turn
Van Gisbergen first took the lead after the Stage 1 pit exchange, then gave it up again as the strategy cycled. The decisive moment came after the final pit sequence completed on Lap 88. When the order sorted out, SVG was back in front.
From there, the pressure changed. Briscoe had track position and pace, but not enough of either to force a mistake. Gibbs was still fast, but the stage sweep had turned into a third-place finish. Kyle Larson climbed to fourth, and Bell rounded out the top five after collecting stage points all afternoon.
Ryan Blaney, Connor Zilisch, Ryan Preece, Michael McDowell and Alex Bowman completed the top 10. Zilisch's seventh-place Cup result was another useful data point on a weekend where he already had speed in the O'Reilly race, and Preece's eighth kept RFK in the mix on a day when track position was not easy to manufacture.

SVG was the dominator. Seventy-four laps led on a 110-lap road-course race is the kind of bonus profile that forces lineup separation. Gibbs will also score well because of the pole, two stage wins and 31 laps led, even though the final result was third. Bell's stage points and fifth-place finish give him a strong floor day. Briscoe did not lead the race, but second place with late-race pressure on the winner is the kind of clean finish that keeps him useful in contest builds.
The difficult reads are the drivers who ran better than their finish or finished better than their stage profile. Larson's fourth-place result matters because he converted without controlling the race. Zilisch's seventh will likely be more valuable than it looks if salary and place-differential context line up after scoring import.
