Quaker State 400 Preview: Reddick Defends Atlanta as Eight Drivers Chase the Bracket

The Cup Series leaves Chicagoland's worn-out intermediate rhythm and heads straight into a race where cooperation is temporary and the last clean move usually wins. Sunday's Quaker State 400 at EchoPark Speedway is the second Atlanta stop of the season, the 20th points race of 2026 and the quarterfinal round of NASCAR's In-Season Challenge. It is also a night race at a track that rarely allows the field to settle.

Tyler Reddick won here in February after surviving a multicar accident and charging back through a double-overtime finish. That victory completed a stunning two-week sweep of Daytona and Atlanta, and it confirmed the No. 45 team as one of the best drafting-track groups in the garage. Yet Reddick enters the rematch 15th in our FantasyJolt projections despite sharing the shortest outright price at +900. That gap between market reputation and current projection is one of the slate's defining choices.

Ryan Blaney is the opposite. Our projections rank him first at $15, and the Team Penske driver has the patience and line control these races demand. Chase Elliott ranks second at $14 and carries the home-state spotlight into a track where he has already won twice. Denny Hamlin ranks third at $13, giving FantasyJolt players a cheaper path to a driver with elite drafting instincts and a live matchup in the bracket.

The In-Season Challenge is down to four head-to-head pairings. Todd Gilliland faces Alex Bowman. Fresh Chicagoland winner Chase Briscoe gets Elliott. Hamlin draws Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Christopher Bell. Blaney meets William Byron. The bracket does not change how points are scored, but it can change decisions. A driver racing one opponent instead of the whole field may protect a position, follow a rival's pit strategy or take a late risk that makes no sense in an ordinary points-only calculation.

Briscoe carries the best momentum in the field after controlling the final 45 laps at Chicagoland and leading a Joe Gibbs Racing sweep of the podium. EchoPark will not reward the same long-run balance, but confidence on pit road travels. He ranks eighth at $12 and offers a more flexible lineup path than the three $15 drivers.

Carson Hocevar may be the best example of track fit hiding in plain sight. He was fourth here in February after starting on the front row for the final overtime restart, and he was third coming to the white flag in each of the last two spring races. He still wants his first Cup win, and our projections rank him fourth at $12. Erik Jones is the salary-board shock: seventh in our projections at only $5. At a drafting track, that price leaves enough room to build around two premium drivers without accepting a true backmarker.

Goodyear is returning with the same Cup tire setup used in February, including the right-side tire introduced for the spring race. Teams have current data and no excuse to be surprised by the balance shift. The real uncertainty comes from 38 cars running in a narrow pack after sunset, when a push that works on Lap 60 can turn into a crash on Lap 259.

Ryan Blaney (+900) is our No. 1 projection and a proven drafting-track decision maker. The concern is salary, not fit.

Chase Elliott (+900) has two Atlanta wins, a home crowd and the second-ranked projection. He also has a direct bracket fight with the hottest driver in the series.

Denny Hamlin (+1600) ranks third at $13, two dollars below the top tier. That is a meaningful discount for a driver who understands how to control a lane and time the final run.

Carson Hocevar (+1600) has finished fourth in consecutive spring Atlanta races and keeps putting himself in the final-lap picture. The first win no longer feels hypothetical at this track.

Tyler Reddick (+900) is the defending race winner and the most important projection disagreement. His 15th-place rank makes him a leverage play rather than a foundational FantasyJolt piece.

Race winner: Ryan Blaney +900 - The price matches the favorites, but our top projection breaks the tie. Blaney has the drafting judgment, manufacturer support and Penske execution to be present when the race narrows to one final move.

Value outright: Denny Hamlin +1600 - Hamlin's price is longer than his experience and our third-place projection suggest. The teammate matchup with Bell adds another reason for the No. 11 to stay near the front all night.

Long shot: Erik Jones +6500 - This is primarily a fantasy-value play, but seventh in our projections is too strong to ignore at this number. Legacy Motor Club showed at Daytona that its cars can remain relevant in a draft.

Top-10 target: Carson Hocevar - Two straight fourth-place spring finishes provide a better foundation than most volatile drafting-track bets. He does not need the first win to cash the placement angle.

Blaney at $15 and Elliott at $14 are the safest premium starts, while Hamlin at $13 is the best salary-adjusted anchor. Hocevar at $12 and Chris Buescher at $11 fit balanced builds. Erik Jones at $5 is the obvious value and will likely carry heavy ownership; John Hunter Nemechek at $5 and AJ Allmendinger at $7 are alternatives if starting position makes Jones less attractive. Reddick is a deliberate tournament pivot, not a default play, until practice and qualifying give the projection a reason to move.
