Carson Kvapil survived two overtimes to win again, while Iowa's late cautions erased strong runs for Ross Chastain, Ryan Sieg and Justin Allgaier.
Carson Kvapil waited 63 starts for his first NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series win. He needed only one more start to get the second.
The No. 1 JR Motorsports Chevrolet survived two overtimes, a spinning leader and one last scramble through Iowa Speedway's upper lane to win Saturday's Hy-Vee Perks 250. Kvapil beat teammate Rajah Caruth to the line by 0.343 seconds, completing a two-race sweep from Indianapolis to Iowa that has changed the shape of his season.
The Restart That Flipped Iowa
Ross Chastain looked to have the race in hand before Jeb Burton spun in Turn 2 and sent the field to overtime. Chastain had led 63 laps and was keeping Kvapil at arm's length, but the late yellow removed the gap and turned the finish into a restart contest.
Chastain chose the outside for the first overtime attempt and spun his tires. Kvapil launched from the inside, cleared the No. 9 and took the lead before the field reached Turn 1.
The race broke open behind him. Brent Crews washed up the track in Turn 2, hit pole winner Ryan Sieg and sent the No. 39 hard into the outside wall. Crews then collected Justin Allgaier, whose fresh-tire charge had carried him from 24th in the running order to third. The eight-car crash forced a second overtime and tied Iowa's O'Reilly Series record with 12 cautions.
Kvapil handled the final restart cleanly. Caruth found momentum in the outside lane and drove to a career-best second, but he could not get close enough to challenge the No. 1 before the checkered flag.
A New Version of Kvapil
Two weeks earlier, Kvapil's first career victory at Indianapolis felt like a breakthrough. Iowa made it look like the start of something larger.
Kvapil became the ninth driver in series history to win his first two races consecutively. The result also moved him to second in the standings entering the regular-season finale, a remarkable turn for a driver piecing together the season across multiple entries.
JR Motorsports put Kvapil, Caruth and Chastain in the top four. It was the organization's 80th consecutive race with at least one top-10 finisher, setting a new series record.
Sieg and Allgaier Lose Their Iowa Runs
The final box score does not explain Ryan Sieg's afternoon. Sieg started from the pole, led all 60 laps in Stage 1 and spent most of the race near the front. A slow stop cost him six positions after the opening stage, but he remained a factor until the Crews contact ended his day on Lap 252. He finished 33rd after leading 65 laps.
Allgaier controlled the middle of the race. He won Stage 2, led a race-high 83 laps and stayed out when most contenders pitted on Lap 161. Repeated cautions worked against the strategy, and the first overtime crash finally dropped him to 24th.
Chastain's fourth-place finish carried its own sting. He was closing on a second victory of the season before the Burton caution, then lost the lead on the restart that decided the race.

Fantasy Recap
The winner was not the highest FantasyJolt scorer. Sheldon Creed finished fifth but built the day's best base score, 58.6 points, by running third and second in the stages and leading 36 laps.
Chastain followed at 53.3 points. His 63 laps led, Stage 1 points and fastest-lap award softened the fantasy damage from losing the race in overtime. Kvapil scored 49.9 points with the victory and a seventh-place Stage 1 result.
The value came from deeper in the top 10. Dean Thompson climbed from 27th to eighth for 34 points at an $8 salary. Brennan Poole advanced from 26th to 10th and scored 32 points for $6. Those two salaries created room for Creed, Chastain and William Sawalich in the optimal build.
Sieg was the sharpest split between result and performance. His 33rd-place finish looked disastrous, but the Stage 1 win, fourth in Stage 2 and 65 laps led still produced 31.5 base points.
