Focused Health 250 Preview: Hill Returns to Atlanta With Another Score to Settle

Thursday, July 9, 2026

Austin Hill has five EchoPark wins and another Atlanta race that slipped away in February. The summer return brings Jesse Love, Sheldon Creed and a deep group of young challengers into NASCAR's fastest O'Reilly chess match.

The last lap of the February O'Reilly race at EchoPark Speedway is the only preview Saturday night's Focused Health 250 really needs. Austin Hill and Ross Chastain came off Turn 2 fighting for the win, made contact and opened the door for Sheldon Creed to drive through for the first victory of his O'Reilly career. It was relief for Creed, frustration for Hill and a reminder that control at Atlanta can disappear in half a straightaway.

The series comes back with the same essential problem and a deeper list of drivers capable of solving it. EchoPark's 28-degree banking and narrow racing surface turn a 1.54-mile oval into a drafting track. Speed matters, but so do manufacturer alliances, lane discipline and the judgment to know when the help behind you is real. A driver can lead 30 laps and still be trapped outside the top 10 after one mistimed block.

Hill remains the measuring stick despite February's ending. He owns five series wins at the track and has made a career out of controlling the air in this package. Jesse Love gives Richard Childress Racing a second front-line threat and enters as the No. 1 driver in our FantasyJolt projections. The two teammates may spend most of the night helping each other, but if they reach the final lap together, the alliance expires before the checkered flag.

Creed returns with a different kind of pressure. The breakthrough win erased the longest-running question around his O'Reilly career, and now the No. 00 has to prove it can create the opportunity instead of waiting for the leaders to tangle. He is only 13th in our current projections at $13, which makes him a risky fantasy spend but a hard driver to dismiss in a race where survival and positioning can beat the spreadsheet.

Brent Crews is the high-upside wild card. He ranks second in our projections in the Joe Gibbs Racing No. 19, one spot ahead of Hill, and has the raw speed to stay attached to the lead draft. Brandon Jones comes directly from a Chicagoland win and ranks fourth. Rajah Caruth, fifth in our projections at $11, led a career-best 22 laps here in February. Those are not background names. They are the drivers who can break up the expected RCR control.

There are 38 cars for 38 starting spots, so qualifying will set the board without sending anyone home. Jordan Anderson returns to his own No. 32 after finishing fourth at Daytona, and Jake Finch makes his second career series start in JR Motorsports' No. 9. The new right-side tire construction is another variable. The compound is familiar, but the updated construction brings the tire in line with more conventional intermediate-track setups. Teams will still draft; they may also have to manage balance over a longer green-flag run.

Drivers to Watch

Austin Hill has five wins here and remains the best lane manager in the series. The February loss adds motivation, but his $15 salary means he needs stage points and a finish near the front.

Jesse Love is our No. 1 projection and shares the strongest drafting program in the field. He is a co-anchor with Hill, not merely the second RCR option.

Brent Crews ranks second at $14. The JGR speed is real, but his value depends on making disciplined decisions when the field begins throwing blocks late.

Rajah Caruth led 22 laps here in February and costs $11. That is the profile of a driver who can fit into balanced lineups while still carrying race-winning upside.

Brandon Jones arrives off the Chicagoland victory. Atlanta requires a different skill set, but confidence and JGR track position make him difficult to ignore at $12.

Best Bets

Race winner: Austin Hill - No active series regular owns a stronger track-specific case. The February finish showed the risk, not a weakness in the underlying play.

Top-five target: Jesse Love - Love has the equipment, a teammate who understands the draft and our highest projection. A top-five position offers a wider path than asking him to win the final-lap chess match.

Long-shot target: Rajah Caruth - The 22 laps led in February were evidence, not noise. If JR Motorsports keeps him near the front, he can control a lane and make the final move.

FantasyJolt Read

Hill, Love and Justin Allgaier all cost $15, but our projections strongly prefer Love and Hill for this track. Crews at $14 and Jones at $12 are viable pivots. Caruth at $11 is the most attractive balanced-build piece, while Brenden Poole at $7 and Patrick Staropoli at $6 offer salary relief. Avoid treating the cheapest drafting-track drivers as interchangeable: losing the lead draft early can erase any salary savings.
