DQS Solutions & Staffing 250 Preview: Trucks Return to Michigan's Wide-Open Draft

Wednesday, June 3, 2026

Michigan gives the Truck Series 125 laps of throttle, drafting help and restart risk, with Corey Heim, Rajah Caruth and the regular contenders carrying the fantasy conversation.

Michigan is not a normal intermediate for the Truck Series. It is a two-mile track with room to chase clean air, but the trucks still punch a big enough hole in the air that drafting help matters. The result is a race that can look orderly for 20 laps, then get completely reshaped by one restart when the outside lane forms and the pack arrives in Turn 1 three-wide.

Corey Heim is the obvious place to start if he has the same front-end speed he has shown on the larger ovals. Michigan rewards drivers who can keep a truck wound up through the center of the corner without scrubbing exit speed, and Heim has usually been one of the cleanest in the field at turning pace into stage points.

Rajah Caruth belongs in the same conversation because Michigan can reward drivers who are willing to build runs instead of forcing them. The track is wide enough to give a patient driver options, especially once the preferred lane moves up and the draft becomes less predictable down the straightaways.

The middle of the slate is where this race gets uncomfortable. Trucks can finish several spots better than their raw pace if they stay attached to the right line, but Michigan also punishes loose traffic decisions. A driver who qualifies 18th can get dragged into the top 10; that same driver can lose the pack after one bad restart and spend an entire run trying to recover.

Fantasy players should watch practice for two things: who can hold throttle over a long run, and who looks stable in traffic. Single-lap speed will matter for track position, but Michigan's fantasy edge usually comes from identifying the trucks that can keep momentum when the air gets dirty. The fastest truck alone is not always the best play if it needs clean air to stay that way.

The closing stage should be the most volatile part of the afternoon. Michigan gives drivers enough space to make aggressive moves, which is exactly why the late restarts can get messy. The winner will likely be someone who can choose the right lane before the field gets to Turn 1, commit to the draft, and still have enough balance to finish the corner.
